Superb silver George III Large Table Snuff tobacco box William Seaman 1805
Lovely silver table snuff or tobacco box hallmarked in London in 1805 and made by William Seaman. Engine turned engraving across the top of the lid and along the sides with an fine geometric shapes. The top also has a raised foliate edge as does the thumb piece. The box if higher than the normal snuff box and feels solid and robust. The hallmarks on the base are on the lip at the side - the marks to the lid seem to be rubbed away. It opens and closes well. When closed it has a wonderfully crafted hinge. A very good solid piece.
Could be used for cards, cotton buds, trinket or similar items, small keepsakes etc. Also a nice collector's display piece.
The box measures 8 cm across by 6.5cm and 3 cm high.
Weight: 139.2 gramsCondition: The box is in lovely condition commensurate with age and light to normal usage. Some light surface marks to the outside in line with its age. A good heavy gauge silver making this a robust useful little box. Clear hallmarks.
