Arts and crafts hand made spoon with planished bowl and cast shaft and terminal by Winifred King the famous Coventry based woman silversmith.
The bowl shows the original planishing marks to great effect. The terminal is cast and comprises two asymmetric hoops surmounted by a single round devise. The spoon measures 13.2 cms long and 4 cms across the bowl. It weighs 23 grams.
Originally based in Coventry Winifred King worked with Mildred Murphy trading under the company name of W King & Co. They were registered at the Birmingham Assay Office from 1924 until 1939. Mainly women silversmiths were trained there and items from their workshops are known until the 1950s. HM Queen Mary was a patron.
